Results of the Men's Cup Weekend - August 13 and 14
Saturday was a gorgeous day in Port Perry and the soccer was a beautiful as the day.
Sunday threaten us with rain that never materialized but the lightening did give us an unscheduled break for about 45 minutes.
In the Under 23 Division the two finalist were both second place finishers in their pool, both Darlington and the West Shore Wanderers won their semi final match 1 – 0. In the end West Shore got to raise the Jonathan Stewart Memorial Trophy at the end of the day by beating Darlington 2 – 1. Congratulations to all participating teams
In the Men’s A Division Durham Athletics went through all 4 games and the one playoff game without surrendering a goal. Unfortunately for them they had to watch Ajax FC Durham Lions raise the trophy as Overall Champs as the final game ended in a 0 – 0 draw and Ajax won the shootout 2 – 1.
Men’s B1 Division saw the WISC Whalers pull off a brilliant 1 – 0 win over WISC FC 2011 in the final. While WISC Catalans needed Extra Time to edge out West Shore Expendables 3 -2 to capture the Men’s B2 Championship.
Thanks to all the teams that came up to Port Perry for the weekend and thanks to Brenda, Cheryl, Jason and Russ for your help in making this day a smoothly run event.
Next week we are back for the Ladies!
Results of the Women's Cup Weekend - August 20 and 21
Again this weekend Saturday was a beautiful day for the beautiful game. This time we did not have any delays on Sunday due to lightening but the ladies did get wet with a few downpours.
In the Women's A Division it came down to Pickering JP edging out Pickering United Storm 2 - 0 in the final match. Pickering JP had to go through the "dreaded" shoot out in their Semi Final game just to make it to the Final. Well done!
Oshawa Turul also had to go through a shoot out in their Semi Final match and went through a bit of rain during their Final Match of the Women's B Division Final with Pickering MT. It was worth it though as they edged out a 1 - 0 victory over their rivals from Pickering. Congratulations to Oshawa Turul on their win.
Pickering United Queens needed a victory in their 4th Priminary game just to advance to the finals which they did and then in the last few minutes of the match against Uxbridge Vince's Market netted the only goal of the game to take the Women's Open C Division title. These two teams played so hard I am not sure they noticed it rained almost the entire match.
To the rest of the teams that came to Port Perry this weekend thanks for making it a great time for all the players and spectators. Again, thanks to Brenda, Cheryl, Jason and Russ as well as our hosts the Scugog Soccer Club for running great weekend
